WWI: High above the clouds, Germany’s Zepplins sweep into Britain’s skies. Packed with bombs, they prepare to unleash another assault on London. To counter these German airships, Britain develops a hybrid aircraft – the Twin Blackburn Twin . A Zwilling design fusing the two fuselages of two planes together, thus doubling the power and providing the thrust to catch the Zepplins. The concept of Twin aircraft would live on long after the war. In WWII Germany herself would go on to build her own Zwillings: Heinkel’s towing aircraft, the He 111z, Dornier’s heavy fighter the Do 635 and Junker’s anti-shipping and reconnaissance plane the Ju290z. This is the story of birth and development of aviation’s “Twins”.
Heinkel He 111z, Dornier Do 635 and Junker Ju290z were all created digitally in CGI and placed in CGI environments. The shots were in various situations on the ground and in the sky and required lighting, animation , particle systems and compositing.
